 Iodine and Iodide directly affect the body's ability to make thyroid hormone. It is best to supplement with both since different tissues concentrate different forms of iodine. One third of the patients being treated for hypothyroidism will need to lower their dose of thyroid hormone once an iodine deficiency is corrected.
